Pandora’s Box

*** on sale,, ,, *** Bangles on sale, *** Bracelets,

As I mention jewelry, how many names can you think of? Of course, you will mention Tiffany. It seems that everyone in the world know it, but how about others, for example Links of London, Cartier, Damiani and Pandora. If your answer is no, and I suggest you reading some fashion books, these names are so common. Jewelry is to celebrities what bread and milk is to common people. Of all the names, perhaps you have least heard of Pandora, why is it named Pandora?  There are several stories for it. The first one is about Greek mythology: Zeus, ordered Hephaestus to mould the first woman out of Earth as part of the punishment of mankind for Prometheus’ theft of the secret of fire. And the woman was Pandora. As Hesiod related it, each god helped create her by giving her unique gifts. Then she was sent to the Earth. Together with her was a box full of evils. Hephaestus sent Pandora to Epmentheus, Prometheus’s brother, and became his wife. Epmentheus was different from his brother. He was numb and forgot his brother’s advice: Don’t receive any gift from the Olympus. When Pandora arrived at the Earth, she opened the box and let all evils out, and closed it before the last thing came out, that was hope. The second one said that Pandora and Epmetheus lived together. But before long, Prometheus brought him a big box and warned him not to open it. However, Pandora was a really curious woman. She thought why a common box had to be hid so secretly and covered with so many layers? So she opened it when her husband was out. To her surprise, there was nothing interesting in the box but evils. Before her opened the box, human beings all lived happily together, because all the evils were locked in the box. Now they were all free, and made human beings suffer. Pandora was too panicked and she hurriedly closed the box. Unfortunately, the most important thing---hope---was kept in the box. However, unlike the tales, the Pandora jewelry is really eye-catching, you will love it the moment you see it. At least I do. To me the Pandora box is not about evil---if beauty is evil---it is about hope. Every time I receive the box, I am so excited and begin to wonder what I am going to get from it. It’s a gift from God.
